The Lukhang Temple

When the Potala Palace was being constructed the builders began digging earth from behind Marpo Ri to use as mortar between the bricks. As you can imagine, they used a lot of mortar! When the building was completed they were left with a huge pit behind the palace. So they filled it with water and made a lake. On a small island in the lake is the Lukhang Temple.
